creativity is a way of life
The wobbly bobbin story
Hi. I’m Heather and I am The Wobbly Bobbin. Ever since I can remember, I have loved being crafty and creative. My mom tells stories of how I used to hang out around her sewing machine and make stuff out of scraps. As a teenager I was always making pillows. In my twenties, a friend of mine taught me how to quilt and I’ve never looked back.
The joke in our family is that we collect hobbies, as well as things. Aside from sewing, I’ve done painting (oil), stained glass, chain-mail, cross-stitch, knitting (which didn’t stick), paracord, and most recently crochet. As a Cub Scout leader, I have always been involved in a variety of crafts and artistic activities. I studied Fine Arts in university and have theory to back up my life experience.
I currently work mostly full-time, but have created the opportunity to work one day a week as I launch The Wobbly Bobbin business. I’m often known as a “Jill-of-all-Trades” which is why the custom experience suits me so well!
I have a very patient husband, an amazing teen-aged son and a dog. Don’t worry he’s non-shedding! He does make a great companion while I work though.
Other passions include games, dragons, Scouting, gardening and being outdoors. In the summer you might even find me sewing outside!
Crafted with care
I use quality materials in the projects I work on, and engage the client as much as possible. Quilts and sewn items are made with high-quality quilting cotton. I am also environmentally aware and often purchase items from other’s stashes, scrap bins and thrift shops when possible. I often use up to the smallest bit of my scraps too! I am one of the crazy ones that buys scraps from other people to make my items. Some of my best quilts have come from scraps.
I also have a line of upcycled items and love to give clothing, blankets and quilts a new life by making them into something that may be more functional or more in-tune with your home.
If you want to know more about what I use in my items, I’d be happy to chat with you about it.
“I'm very happy to say you made some great bowl cozies that were Christmas presents. They're the perfect thing for holding onto a bowl of soup or chili and were both cute and well-made!”
