I first bought the kit back in 2023 when Anna Maria released the first kit and pattern for this quilt. I wasn't working at the store yet, so I spent a lot of time hemming and hawing about how lovely this quilt was and if I could afford the kit. I finally splurged and bought it as the last kits went up for sale.

I have always loved the colours, bold patterns and vibrancy of this quilt. As I was ordering fabrics for the store during the transition, I saw that the pattern was being re-released this year with a different fabric line. I just knew that I had to buy the pattern and that it had to be a class this fall.
I have now started on this quilt and it has been a real joy to work on. I'm not going to lie, it is a bit of work, but it's not hard work. I don't do a lot of applique quilts, so this has been a nice change for me.
So far I have done the prep work. The first step is to prepare the fabric for the applique process. I had help from Agata tracing out the flower "cones" and petals on Steam a Seam 2. This is a great medium because it will stabilize all of the fabrics as I work on them.

Once the shapes are traced, you then have to cut around them all leaving a quarter inch around them so you can trim them close later.
The next stage is peeling off the back side of the Steam a Seam and applying it to the back of the fabric. I mention the back of the fabric specifically because I got it wrong a few times and started fusing the Steam a Seam to the front of the fabric (eye roll). This is why we like a bit of extra fabric in our hands when we do these projects!!

My cordless iron has been a great tool on this project since it's a bit smaller than my normal big steamy iron.

That left me with cutting out the "cones" and petals to have them ready to applique them onto the blocks.
Silly Bobbins, aka my dog Jasper, had surgery recently so while he sat and looked at me in his drugged gaze, I sat and kept an eye on him while I cut out all the fabrics. I put on a couple of fun movies, had some snacks and cut away. (A good tip is to keep a garbage bag close by to collect all the scraps!)

Now I'm ready for the next step and start building all the blocks!

Check back soon for the next update on my progress with the quilt!
